On October 22, Krista Palen will join the Zak World of Façades conference in Toronto to present insights from George Brown College’s Limberlost Place— Ontario’s first mass-timber institutional building.
Her talk will explore how innovative façade design supports both performance and sustainability:
• Form and façade design maximizing natural light and ventilation through operable windows and solar chimneys
• Prefabricated envelope construction ensuring quality control, thermal optimization, and waste reduction
• Collaborative design process aligning architectural vision, engineering precision, and stakeholder input to achieve a high-performance, low-carbon mass timber system
Limberlost Place sets a new benchmark for educational buildings in Canada — combining climate-responsive design, material innovation, and environmental responsibility.
