The Green Energy (GEO) Building is a pioneering office building designed to become the Malaysia's first Zero Energy Office (ZEO) building. Formerly known as the Pusat Tenaga Malaysia (PTM) ZEO building, it is now known as GreenTech Malaysia (2021).
"Zero Energy" in this case means, that the building consumes no more electricity than can be generated by the building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) system. This innovative building, already highly energy efficient at the time, went into operation in November 2007 and initially achieved an energy index, determined by measured values, of 64 kWh/m²/year (without PV) and 35 kWh/m²/year (with PV), or 15% of the consumption of a typical office building in Malaysia. Recently, the building was equipped with additional photovoltaics, which lowers the energy index to 15 kWh/m²/year. After the upcoming replacement of the chiller, the building will fully achieve the " Zero Energy" goal.
13 years after its completion, the GEO building joins the ranks of winners of the ASEAN Energy Awards in the "Zero Energy Building" category, alongside the building of the School of Design & Environment, SDE4, National University of Singapore (NUS).
