Meles Zenawi Memorial Park

Legsese Meles Zenawi was an Ethiopian politician and Ethiopia’s Prime Minister from 1995 until his death in 2012. The Gulele Botanical Garden north of the Ethiopian capital is now a memorial park. The Meles Zenawi Foundation is a nonprofit organization established to preserve Meles' spiritual legacy. The foundation is building a campus of five buildings within the park: a panoramic outlook and reception area, a guesthouse, offices, a research center and a library. The buildings were designed by Studio Other Spaces with the Danish-Icelandic artist Ólafur Elíasson. At his request, Transsolar has provided light and shade studies and thermal simulations for adequate daylight and thermal comfort in two of the buildings: the very transparent spiral office building and the guesthouse, which has many wall segments.
