Masterplan Railyard Köpenick

Former railroad areas that are no longer in use will be transformed into a new urban district for the growing city through innovative urban development strategies. The master plan, with its integrated approach, aims to blend urban biodiversity with a circular economy, sustainable energy supply, and mobility while minimizing CO2 emissions.
Described as a “contemporary interpretation of urban life,” the district is inspired by the classic block structure of European cities. However, it aims to create a pedestrian-friendly quarter where social infrastructure is safely accessible on foot and by bike. The new quarter's public spaces form a network of green areas that connect both sides of the station. The dyke park along the tracks is not a traditional park but a space where ecology and urban life intersect, offering an urban wilderness landscape and providing sound insulation from the railroad.
Rather than a traditional commercial center, the plan emphasizes a hub that leverages synergies between sports, landscape, and social programs for the benefit of the local community.
In the current project phase, Transsolar is ensuring that the building designs align with sustainability objectives. This involves determining hours of sunshine, conducting daylighting studies, and performing CFD flow simulations to assess and enhance outdoor comfort.
