Atlassian Headquarters, Sydney, Australia

Atlassian Headquarters

Atlassian plans to build the world's tallest hybrid timber tower for its new headquarters next to Central Station, reshaping the skyline at the southern end of Sydney's CBD. The building has been designed by SHoP and BVN Architects with Eckersley O’Callaghan responsible for the building’s structure and façade design and LCI for building services.

Transsolar developed the sustainability strategy which includes a novel approach in high rise buildings to create comfort and resiliency. The climate engineering strategies create a highly autonomous building well embedded in the local climate. Natural ventilation will supply parts of the building and mechanical supported systems will be reduced to focus areas only. The operable façade will include photo voltaic panels to generate electricity and reduce solar gains with self-shading. The concepts are instrumental to reduce on site energy demand by 50% and in line with Atlassian’s commitment to operate on 100% renewable energy once opened. The project will target 50% less embodied carbon in construction compared to a conventional building.

The 40-storey building will become the centrepiece of the state government-planned tech hub, which will eventually span from Central to near Redfern station.
