Matthias Schuler lectures at UBC Vancouver

Matthias Schuler is giving a lecture today about "local identities" at the University of British Columbia. He was invited by Inge Roecker from the School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture to participate in the ARCH 521 Comprehensive Design Studio titled 'Conceptualizing the Technical: The Britannia Beach Community Hall and Bathhouse'.
The Klimaengineer Matthias Schuler follows the methodology of 'local identity', when developing innovative and sustainable concepts for his building projects. At the Biennale in Venice in 2016, Matthias and architect Anja Thierfelder designed the installation Lightscapes | Local identity – exploring a forgotten resource visualizing the concept. The aim was to inspire others to sharpen their senses: “Seek out and delve into the local identity of a place and let its potential help you define your buildings and cities!” This is how bespoke, sustainable, and aesthetic solutions can arise and distinguish themselves from global architectural trends.
