The 2024 Rewire Fellows present groundbreaking ideas for transforming New York City’s buildings and public spaces into catalysts for a climate positive future.
As part of the Rewire initiative, nearly 50 Forum Fellows contributed their expertise to develop innovative design and policy proposals aimed at addressing the climate crisis.
Tommaso Bitossi participated in the “Green Homes” working group, exploring how to accelerate energy retrofits in New York’s existing residential buildings, while also supporting affordable living. The team will present their findings, and propose a plan in hopes for stakeholders’ investments.
The “Green Homes” working group focuses on retrofitting residential units under 25,000 square feet, which house over 50% of New York City’s residents. The key takeaway is that the biggest obstacles aren’t technical challenges; instead, the real barriers lie in navigating complex processes, regulations, financing, and workforce limitations.
