Primary and Middle School, New Building Im Steinpark

The design is based on a thorough survey of the building and structural specifications of the site at the entrance to the Steinpark neighborhood. The facility of the two schools with gymnasium has a generous open space with greened areas for recess and sports. The existing terrain topography and the tree population are taken into account as far as possible and integrated into the design.

Two school buildings share a two-story base: the elementary school has two floors, the middle school three, each above the jointly used areas in which the auditorium, cafeteria, administration, special subject rooms and all-day area are located. The shared entrance for both schools is spacious and transparent. Deliveries can be made to the cafeteria via a public street entrance.

The transition between the common areas of the central two-story auditorium and the light-flooded forum is fluid. Two central staircases lead from the common foyer to the orientation zones with the all-day area and the special subject rooms. Classrooms are located above.

Transsolar has conducted simulation studies to determine an optimal supply of daylight to the classrooms. In order to ensure the quality of air quality, which is particularly important in schools, recommendations were made for the necessary measures for air exchange. Building component activation can keep thermal comfort within the comfort range in all seasons, even on extreme days. Building simulations for different occupancy rates were used to gather details on additional areas including the forum, auditorium, and ‘gallery’.
