CSCEC Headquarters Honored with Three 2025 CTBUH Awards of Excellence

At the 2025 CTBUH International Conference, titled “From the Ground Up: Tall Buildings and City Making” and held in Toronto on October 8, the CSCEC Science and Innovation Building in Guangzhou, China, received three Awards of Excellence in the categories of Construction, Systems, and Innovation.

The 37-story high-rise serves as the new headquarters for the China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC) and demonstrates an innovative approach to sustainable high-rise design. The building integrates a solar chimney, a vertical airshaft that harnesses solar energy to create natural ventilation, in combination with façade air intakes that promote airflow throughout the building. This strategy reduces the need for mechanical cooling and enhances overall energy performance.

Further sustainability measures include carbon emission monitoring, the use of low-carbon materials, and the integration of renewable energy sources, establishing a replicable model for the sustainable development of future high-rise structures.

Krista Palen of Transsolar attended the ceremony to receive the awards together with Tobias Keyl from gmp Architekten.
